Pledge to pick for the Great British September Clean
Earlier this year we were blown away by the support from everyone – volunteers, charities and businesses – for the Great British Spring Clean, which was due to take place from 20 March - 13 April.
However, with our first priority to make sure everyone stayed safe and well, we postponed this year’s campaign due to Covid-19.
Now it is back and here's how you can get involved and show support for our Great British September Clean:
- Organise a private clean-up with up to five other family and friends.
- Pledge to do your own individual clean-up, you can give as little as 15 minutes to the campaign.
Due to the current situation we are going to have to loan out equipment very different this year.
We have put together this guidance to inform you of how we are going to loan out our litter picking equipment for this year’s Great British September Clean. We would like to support this event as much as we can in this uncertain time but we have had to take into account new guidelines on the cleaning of the equipment.
Due to this, we have taken the decision to only hire out equipment to pre-existing litter picking groups and parish councils. We are asking for the groups to keep hold of the equipment for 3 weeks and have an adequate place to store the equipment when not in use.
Loaning of equipment:
We has taken the decision to hire out only 6 litter pickers at a time to each group to ensure that the government guidelines is maintained.
All groups wanting to loan equipment must have suitable insurance’s in place. To loan the equipment you must fill in the Community litter pick form on our website where you will be notified if your request has been successful. Due to the enhanced health and safety precautions we are taking, it is a first come first served system.
You will need to pick up the equipment on Friday 11th September 2020 between 1000 – 1300 hours from Unit 26 Carlton Road Business Centre, Carlton Road, Ashford, TN23 1DP. All equipment will be cleaned before collection and we will ask that you adhere to the guidelines as the group leader.
All equipment will be returned to us on Friday 2nd October 2020 from 1000 – 1300 hours at Unit 26 Carlton Road Business Centre, Carlton Road, Ashford, TN23 1DP. We cannot take delivery of the equipment at any other time due to lack of staff availabity and the closure of the Civic centre.
All group leaders will need to:
- Conduct a risk assessment
- Map the areas to be cleared and notify us of where you wish your bags to be collected from using the community litter pick form at least 5 working days before your pick as our resources are stretched and we need adequate time to plan this into their schedules.
- You must conduct a safety briefing with all volunteers prior to the litter pick starting
- Take contact details of all the volunteers at the litter pick so that if they need to be contacted for the test and trace service
- Have adequate PPE equipment and hand sanitiser available
We hope that this has helped explain the procedures we are putting in place for this event
Welcome to the Challock village website where you will find information on all our village has to offer.
Challock sits high on the North Downs above Ashford in Kent in a pretty and peaceful rural setting within an area of oustanding natural beauty and the well kept Lees forms a picturesque centre and helps give us a classic English Village look. With a population of around 830 Challock is a small village but has some big ideas and as with every good village has a strong community spirit.
One of our greatest assets is our primary school which has a superb reputation and is oversubscribed for places every year. As well as producing excellent academic results the children at the school are exceptionally well behaved and they contribute greatly to village life.
We have a large number of businesses within the village, further details of which can be found within our web pages, and these provide both employment and local services to both villagers and visitors alike.
Whatever your reason for visiting our website I hope that it is informative.
Challock is a special village and those who live here are proud to call it home.
